Senior Land Surveyor - Water Infrastructure & Tunnelling Project

 

Location:          North West

Contract:          Inside IR35

Duration:          12 Months initially

 

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Land Surveyor to join a major water infrastructure project involving large-scale tunnelling, underground structures, shafts, pipelines and associated civil engineering works.

Working as part of the project delivery team, you will be responsible for managing and delivering high-quality survey data across all phases of construction. This role requires a highly motivated individual with strong technical expertise in land surveying, geomatics, data processing and survey management.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a long-term infrastructure programme that will play a key role in improving the UK's water network.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage and deliver land, engineering and construction surveys.
  • Undertake control network establishment and maintenance.
  • Deliver precise setting out and as-built surveys for tunnelling and water infrastructure works.
  • Manage survey activities across multiple work fronts and project teams.
  • Process, analyse and validate survey data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Produce survey reports, drawings and technical documentation.
  • Carry out topographical, measured building and utility surveys.
  • Support tunnelling operations with monitoring and survey control requirements.
  • Manage survey equipment calibration and maintenance.
  • Ensure survey deliverables are completed in line with programme requirements.
  • Provide survey data to engineering, design and construction teams.
  • Interpret and analyse survey outputs to support construction decision-making.
  • Maintain quality assurance procedures and survey standards.
  • Assist in developing survey methodologies and best practice procedures.
  • Mentor and support junior surveyors and survey technicians.
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, designers and construction teams regarding survey requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.

 

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Land Surveyor within major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working on water, utility, tunnelling or underground construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering surveying principles and control networks.
  • Proficiency with Leica, Trimble or similar survey equipment.
  • Experience using GNSS, Total Stations and Laser Scanning technology.
  • Strong data processing and analysis experience.
  • Knowledge of survey software such as:
    • Trimble Business Centre
    • Leica Infinity
    • AutoCAD Civil 3D
    • N4CE
    • LSS
    • Recap
    • GIS platforms
  • Ability to manage multiple survey activities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

 

Desirable

  • Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Surveying, Geomatics or a related discipline.
  • Membership of RICS, CICES or a relevant professional body.
  • Experience working in live tunnelling environments.
  • Laser scanning and point cloud processing experience.
  • UAV/Drone survey knowledge and relevant certification.
  • Monitoring survey experience.
  • Machine control and digital engineering experience.
