CarmichaelUK are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a background in Building Services for work on a Build Framework in Cambridge. 

There is also potential for a once in a lifetime opportunity to work overseas in Antarctica for a 3-6 month stint.

Those who possess Tier 1 Main Contractor experience are highly encouraged to apply. 

The work consists of conventional building services for new and existing facilities. Robust, detailed and coordinated designs are the key to project success. Design and procurement must be well managed as everything is shipped to site.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish MEP requirements in the quality plan for design, build and test.
  • Familiar with RIBA Design Changes
  • Obtain back up for technical reviews that cannot be competently undertaken by the project team.
  • Keep abreast, record and monitor design changes as the work progresses. Ensure all change is properly reviewed before approved.
  • Coordinate received designs with civils, buildings, MEP and other specialist systems
  • Produce TQ’s as appropriate
  • Coordinate with/ attend meetings with the clients.
  • Coordinate with/ attend meetings with designers, MEP suppliers and subcontractors 
  • Expedite procurement/ manufacture – report on progress
  • Prepare method statements
  • Hold/ attend site coordination meetings and plan/ schedule installation activities
  • Answer on-site technical queries
  • Record change and instructions

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree or technically qualified engineer in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
  • Member of IMechE/ IET/ CIBSE or has the qualifications to become chartered.
  • Cumulative 10 years’ experience and competency in Building Services,
  • Ideally have a design background
  • Project Experience >£5M MEP,.
  • The candidate should be familiar with and able to use the microsoft suite of office programmes.
  • Good communications skills.
  • Be well organised.
