An excellent freelance opportunity is available for a Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong experience overseeing the full commercial lifecycle of large-scale infrastructure projects. You may work independently or lead a small commercial team or alternatively report into a more senior commercial lead depending on project structure.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and issue accurate, timely contractual notices and correspondence in line with project requirements.
  • Identify and communicate commercial risks and opportunities to the contract lead.
  • Prepare and agree applications for payment and assess payment certificates.
  • Maintain detailed records of variations, delays, extensions of time, and claims.
  • Ensure consistent application of company commercial procedures and policies.
  • Support monthly valuations and claims for completed works.
  • Liaise with client-side commercial and project teams.
  • Assist with pre-contract negotiations and reporting.
  • Produce monthly cost reports, forecasts, and updates for the contract lead.
  • Advise on value engineering and risk management strategies.
  • Manage procurement activities including supply chain enquiries, negotiations, and contract close-outs.
  • Implement change control and cost management processes.
  • Monitor and update procurement plans, including benchmarking.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with site teams, supply chain, and client representatives.
  • Provide contractual guidance to project and site teams as needed.
  • Stay informed on current construction contracts and their implications.
  • Ensure health, safety, and environmental risks are escalated appropriately.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience on major infrastructure projects within civil engineering, ideally under NEC4 contracts.
  • Strong financial and commercial insight.
  • Methodical and practical approach to work.
  • Skilled in setting up and managing office systems including document control.
  • Experienced in technical minute-taking and producing reports, certificates, and financial documentation.
  • Capable of drafting clear contractual correspondence and promoting collaborative solutions.
  • Strong negotiation and leadership skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Solid understanding of legal, contractual, and construction principles.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence and lead.
  • Experience in developing and executing procurement and contract strategies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Degree accredited by RICS or CICES.

Full or near-complete RICS/CICES membership desirable
