We are recruiting for a Senior Section Engineer to join a Finishing team building for a major structure on the HS2 line.
  
As a Senior Section Engineer, you will plan and direct the delivery of the extensive Formwork, Reinforcement and Concrete (FRC) Package and manage the design coordination for the deck finishes relating to your section of work. You will also train and mentor a team of Assistant Engineers who will support you with the delivery of the tasks under responsibility.

Your role

Operational

  • Prepare, coordinate, and monitor a full package of works from the initial conception to the schedule and final completion.
  • Manage interfaces in between the different partners on the deck finishes team and in between internal teams
  • Support the tendering process for the different packages of works
  • Review and approve all the temporary works design related to the deck finishes packages of works
  • Monitor the design progress for the full scope of works
  • Update the budget and forecast any potential modification
  • Support of the Package Lean with the consent’s preparation and monitor the onsite compliance
  • Monitor the works as per the programme and budget agreed
  • Perform quality control checks throughout all stages of works
  • Ensure that all the quality records are up to date and identify and raise any potential Non-Conformance, Field Change Request and Request For Information.
  • Contract requirements and manage these within your section of the works. This shall include but not be limited to Material Certification, ITPs, and management of snags and defects. Ensure that all the partners promptly compile information for the handover file (i.e. As Built and quality records) and liaise with the client to obtain sign off of the works.
  • Take an active role in mentoring staff within your team, developing their skills, identifying appropriate training needs, and reviewing their competence in readiness for new tasks/roles. Take steps to effectively manage performance issues with members of staff and ensure that these are suitably recorded. Ensure that any staff concerns are escalated to your line manager.
  • Undertake constructability reviews of design information as it is released, providing suitable constructive feedback on the design proposals and how they will be constructed and maintained.
  • Liaise with all the disciplines leads on the preparation of the package of works, that could include the Methods, Quality or Design teams
  • Communicate effectively with the full team and to maintain a good working environment

  
About you

  • Extensive demonstrable experience of working at a similar level with experience gained in FRC Works, ideally on large infrastructure/construction projects.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification and or experience in a Civil Engineer related discipline.
  • Strong organisational skills, effective influencing, and communication skills. You’ll also be a strong collaborator and relationship builder with effective stakeholder management skills
  • You’ll hold an SMSTS and a CSCS card as well.
