Excellent freelance design opportunities exists for Senior Structural Engineers with experience on highway structures like bridges, retaining walls, gantry bases etc. you will be required to produce and oversee scheme designs, reports and documentation in accordance with specified briefs and in line with the time and budgetary allocations. To carry out structural inspections and undertake and oversee structural assessments. To assist in the overall delivery of the workload of the Structures team including feasibility reports and design checks.
Responsibilities will include -

Contribute to the successful delivery of the programme of work by producing, developing and overseeing sound design solutions to meet client requirements within budget and timescale, following approved processes and procedures as well as any Client specific requirements.

Developing and designing solutions in accordance to National design standards, procedures and requirements and any specific parameters.

Production or overseeing of scheme documents and reports.

Contribute to compliance with the Quality Management Systems including site specific audits.

Production and overseeing of designs that comply with relevant health and safety legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations.

Adhere to Health and Safety requirements within the workplace, ensuring awareness of and compliance with general Health and Safety responsibilities as set out in the Health and Safety Management System.

Contribute to the regular reporting of progress to clients by communicating with line managers regarding their progress against planned programme

Assist in the mentoring and development of staff to grow organically and the development of in-house structures capability.

Perform other duties as may from time to time be reasonably required
Requirements for this opportunity include

Extensive design experience on highway structures
-
BSc Civil Engineering or equivalent with bias toward civil structures
-
Working knowledge of structural design software
-
Recent Highways England project experience
-
Solid team management and motivation
-
Chartership would be advantageous but not essential
