Site Engineer (Setting Out) – Major Civil Engineering Project

Overview
Carmichael UK has a fantastic opportunity for Site Engineers with strong setting-out experience to join a long-term civil engineering project in Plymouth.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a well-established delivery team on a variety of civil engineering works, playing a key role in the accurate and safe delivery of site activities. The role covers both self-delivered and subcontracted works.
The Role
As a Site Engineer, you will be responsible for day-to-day engineering activities on site, with a strong emphasis on setting out and dimensional control. You will support and mentor junior engineers where required and provide technical input across multiple areas of delivery.

Key Accountabilities

SHE performance at site level, supporting the Line Manager
-
Quality performance, ensuring standards of workmanship and documentation are met
-
Accuracy of engineering controls and dimensional compliance
-
Supporting the effective performance of the site engineering team
Dimensional Control & Setting Out
-
Ensure timely and accurate dimensional control of works
-
Provide and check setting-out for both direct delivery and subcontracted works
-
Establish clear and accurate setting-out on site
-
Communicate setting-out information clearly to subcontractors and operatives
-
Set out works in advance to allow time for independent and secondary checks
-
Maintain long-term control points and project stations
-
Ensure all survey instruments are correctly calibrated and tested
Quality
-
Produce and implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for your section of works
-
Ensure quality inspections are carried out and records maintained
-
Raise and manage RFIs and Technical Queries (TQs)
-
Contribute to the production of as-built documentation
-
Maintain accurate site records including diaries, photographs, and marked-up drawings
-
Ensure compliance with the Quality Management System

Maintain quality records and support close-out of NCRs
-
Support delivery of project quality objectives within the Site Management Plan (SMP)
Programme & Planning
-
Develop and manage short- to medium-term programmes for your section of works
-
Maintain accurate progress records
-
Monitor and manage subcontractor progress
-
Ensure short-term construction programmes are understood and followed
-
Brief engineers and site teams on upcoming works to ensure timely setting-out
-
Attend collaborative planning sessions as required
About You
-
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
-
5+ years’ experience working on civil engineering projects
-
Strong setting-out and dimensional control experience
-
Working towards Professional / Chartered certification
-
Strong organisational and communication skills
-
UK National, eligible for security clearance
