Location: Birmingham

Rate: £500p.d 

Role: Site Agent along M42 Mainline

Duration: 27th February - 25th April 2024 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work Environment

  • Communicate effectively with other engineers, supervisors, enabling functions, designers, and client representatives.
  • Contribute to and lead an effective working environment for your team.
  • Feedback to team on how we can make the workplace more pleasant for everyone. Solicit feedback from your engineers. Act on this feedback
  • Support and encourage the development of your engineering team.
  • Input into your direct report’s annual goals and check in on the development of these regularly
  • Design
  • Review designs and raise any queries to the design team via TQs
  • Write and/or Review Temporary Works Design Briefs to the acceptance of the TWC
  • Ensure the delivery team is working to the latest design, and fully understands it
  • Programme and planning
  • Produce the whole life programmes for your works and update them at suitable intervals. Resource load the programmes to control interfaces and continuity.
  • Review and approve CL31 and CL32 programmes from the supply chain.
  • Identify issues and constraints with the strategic programme and flag them to the Construction Manager and Planning team.
  • Ensure progress is recorded and compare it to planned production for your assets. Tracking progress through graphical means
  • Communicate your plan for the next 2-3 months to the wider project team
  • Ensure high quality 4-week lookaheads are produced by your engineers.
  • Understand, challenge, and contribute to the project’s CL32 programmes.
  • Commercial
  • Write subcontract Scopes as required, liaising with others to determine suitable attendances
  • Administer the subcontract scope of works and ensure that this is followed by the suppliers. Ensure CEMAR is utilised and kept up to date.
  • Review Compensation Events from the supply chain.
  • Draft instructions for the supply chain
  • Generate cost forecasts for any plant and materials in your area of responsibility.
  • Manage the material reconciliation and any associated wastage
  • Ensure suppliers generate forecasts of a suitable quality.
  • Review the supply chain application for payments for your Package
  • Quality
  • Understand the design specifications and drawings for your section. Challenge where relevant.
  • Ensure quality processes are followed for your works.
  • Ensure quality records are captured and stored correctly. Utilising the Common Data Environment
  • Review and close Non-Conformances and ensure they are promptly reported.
  • Ensure progress towards handover is appropriately tracked.
  • Accountable for handing over the works under your responsibility.
  • Write and/or Review Inspection and Test Plans
  • Safety
  • Collaborate with others to plan your works to minimise health and safety hazards.
  • Write and/or Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements for your works, ensuring that people identify and appropriately mitigate health and safety hazards.
  • Raise observations and encourage others to do so
  • Organise and complete safety inspections and ensure the actions are closed out.
  • Set and maintain clear expectations for health and safety with your team and suppliers working on your section.
  • Be familiar with and demonstrate commitment to the requirements of the Health & Safety Policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the reporting of safety statistics from your works.
  • Environment
  • Collaborate with others to plan your works to minimise environmental hazards.
  • Ensure the relevant environmental control points and hazards are noted in the RAMS
  • Raise observations and encourage others to do so
  • Organise and complete environmental inspections and ensure the actions are closed out.
  • Set and maintain clear expectations for environmental management with your team and suppliers working on your section.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to reduce carbon associated with your section.
  • Be familiar with and demonstrate commitment to the requirements of the Environmental Policies and procedures. 
  • Contribute to the reporting of environmental statistics for your works.

 

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

This section sets out the qualifications, skills and experience that are required to successfully perform this role.

  • Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering principles and common construction methodologies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of temporary works processes, design and management.  
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction contracts (through experience and formal training). Ideally ECC NEC4.
  • Digital competence (MS Office 365, document control systems, site digital tools).
  • Formal training in Health & Safety and Environmental management (SMSTS/SSSTS)
  • CSCS Card
  • Experience in delivering major highways schemes, ideally SMART motorways schemes.
  • Experience in managing the delivery of gantries.
  • A basic understanding of traffic management.
