Carmichael UK is seeking an experienced Site Engineer to support the successful delivery of major infrastructure and civil engineering works. This role is responsible for ensuring construction activities are delivered safely, accurately, and in accordance with design specifications, quality requirements, and programme objectives.

Working closely with project teams, subcontractors, and key stakeholders, the Site Engineer will play a vital role in coordinating site activities, providing technical support, maintaining compliance, and driving efficient project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support Site Engineers, Graduate Engineers, and other technical team members on site.
  • Ensure works are correctly set out and that all required permits and approvals are in place before activities commence.
  • Carry out and review site surveys, records, and as-built information as required.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Site Managers, Supervisors, and supply chain partners to coordinate site activities and ensure compliance with safe systems of work.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, progress reports, production records, and photographic evidence.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation, raising queries and identifying potential issues where necessary.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with design requirements, quality standards, and project procedures.
  • Contribute to planning and sequencing activities to support efficient project delivery.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality performance across all site operations.
  • Support the development and mentoring of junior engineering staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience working as a Site Engineer on infrastructure, civil engineering, or major construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of setting out, site engineering processes, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience coordinating site activities with multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve technical challenges on site.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to mentor and develop junior team members.

Desirable

  • Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or utilities projects.
  • Knowledge of permit-to-work systems and temporary works procedures.
  • Familiarity with digital site records, field technology, and construction management systems.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Civil Engineering qualification (HNC, HND, BEng, MEng, BSc, MSc, or equivalent).
  • SMSTS.
  • First Aid at Work certification.

Desirable

  • Appointed Person (Lifting Operations).
  • Mental Health First Aid qualification.
  • Fire Marshal training.
