Carmichael UK is seeking a Site Engineer to join a major infrastructure project at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of one of the UK's most complex and high-profile engineering projects, working within a collaborative environment on a secure and technically challenging site.

As a Site Engineer, you will support the safe and efficient delivery of construction activities, ensuring all works are completed in accordance with project specifications, site standards, and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with Construction Managers, Supervisors, subcontractors, and client representatives to coordinate site activities, maintain quality standards, and drive project progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and site procedures.
  • Coordinate daily construction activities with site management teams and subcontractors.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), RAMS, permit systems, and site licence requirements.
  • Maintain accurate site records including diaries, progress reports, production schedules, and photographic records.
  • Conduct site surveys and ensure records are completed and submitted as required.
  • Review drawings and specifications, raising Technical Queries (TQs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where necessary.
  • Update and maintain site CAD drawings and associated engineering documentation.
  • Support planning and programming activities alongside site teams and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate Health & Safety meetings, progress meetings, and subcontractor coordination meetings.
  • Assist in maintaining project risk registers and identifying opportunities and potential risks.
  • Support project handover by ensuring all required documentation is completed and collated.

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • CSCS Card.
  • SMSTS or IOSH qualification.
  • Previous site engineering experience within civil engineering, construction, infrastructure or major projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, engineering principles, and site controls.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience producing and managing site records and project documentation.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and basic CAD software.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • Experience working in regulated or highly controlled environments.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations, HSAWA, and related construction legislation.
  • Experience with BIM, Autodesk and/or Bentley software.
  • Familiarity with planning software such as Aphex or Primavera P6.
  • NEC contract knowledge.
  • Nuclear project experience and/or relevant nuclear safety training.
  • Additional site qualifications such as Temporary Works, Lifting Appointed Person, or Confined Space.
