SITE ENGINEER - CUMBRIA - MAJOR HIGHWAYS PROJECT - CONTRACT ROLE - INSIDE IR35

Carmichael UK is recruiting for a Site Engineer to join a major highways infrastructure project in Cumbria. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a nationally significant scheme while working alongside a highly experienced engineering and construction team.

We are seeking an engineer with strong setting out and quality assurance experience who can support the successful delivery of earthworks, drainage, highways and associated infrastructure works. The successful candidate will also help develop junior engineers and contribute to maintaining high engineering and quality standards across the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out setting out for highways, drainage, structures and associated civil engineering works.
  • Produce and maintain accurate as-built records.
  • Undertake topographical and site surveys using Leica, Trimble, GPS and Total Station equipment.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with design drawings and project specifications.
  • Manage QA documentation, including ITPs, inspection records, permits and handover documentation.
  • Carry out quality inspections and coordinate client and subcontractor sign-offs.
  • Raise and manage TQs, RFIs and engineering queries.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Support planning and delivery of works in line with programme requirements.
  • Mentor and develop Graduate and Junior Engineers, providing technical support and guidance on setting out and engineering best practice.
  • Promote a positive health, safety and quality culture across the project.

Requirements

  • Experience working as a Site Engineer or Senior Site Engineer on highways or major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong setting out experience across earthworks, drainage, highways or structures.
  • Proven QA and quality management experience, including ITPs and handover processes.
  • Competent user of Leica, Trimble, GPS and Total Station equipment.
  • Experience producing as-built records and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to mentor and supervise junior engineering staff.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • HNC, HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • CSCS Card essential.

Desirable

  • Previous experience on National Highways projects.
  • Earthworks, drainage and structures experience.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS qualification.
  • Temporary Works knowledge.
