SITE ENGINEER - MANCHESTER - RAIL PROJECT - CONTRACT (Inside IR35)

Site Engineer – Rail (AFA Scheme) – PTS Required

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Site Engineer to join a major rail infrastructure contractor, who are delivering a number of Access for All (AFA) Schemes. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile rail programme, supporting the successful delivery of civil engineering and rail construction works.  The successful candidate will be responsible for setting out, quality assurance, surveying, and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting out and surveying works using GPS and total station equipment.
  • Producing and maintaining accurate site records.
  • Ensuring works are completed in accordance with drawings and specifications.
  • Carrying out quality assurance checks and inspections.
  • Completing ITPs, check sheets, and as-built records.
  • Supporting the management team with daily site operations.
  • Liaising with subcontractors, supervisors, and project stakeholders.
  • Monitoring progress against programme requirements.
  • Identifying and resolving engineering and technical issues on site.
  • Ensuring compliance with Network Rail standards and project procedures.
  • Promoting and maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

 

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Site Engineer on rail projects.
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification – essential.
  • Competent in setting out using Leica, Trimble, or similar equipment.
  • Experience with QA documentation, ITPs, and as-built records.
  • Strong understanding of rail construction and civil engineering practices.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • CSCS Card.
  • Full UK driving licence.

 

Desirable

  • Experience working on Network Rail infrastructure projects.
  • HND/HNC or Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS.
  • Temporary Works awareness.
  • Experience with drainage, structures, earthworks, trackside civils, or station works.
