Our client is looking to recruit a Site Engineer for its £965m High Speed 2 project. The role will be initially based in Euston and then will move to site within 6 months. The site is around the Uxbridge area.

The JV will be responsible for the design and build of the main civil works of the 22km section of the high-speed rail line, running between the Colne Valley and the Chilterns. The C1 lot includes the route’s 3.4km- long Colne Valley Viaduct, as well as the 15.8km-long Chiltern twin-tunnels.

The Site Engineer is responsible for supporting the construction team with the technical and engineering aspects of the works, in particular:

  • Method Statements
  • ITPs
  • Construction process
  • Engineering specifications
  • Set out and measurement
  • Quality control, certificate and compliance
  • Environment awareness
  • Coordination and programme the works

For the particularity of HS2 contract the Site Engineer will be in charge for the works under is remit to support the following teams:

  • Community engagement 
  • Stakeholder management
  • U&A

The Site Engineer helps to create an efficient working environment, keeps production costs low and helps maintain employee morale.

Responsibilities:

The Site Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Liaise with the client representative and designers over design issues/changes.
  • Assist the site management team to manage sections of the work/specific sub-contract packages.
  • Take responsibility for checking and keeping records of delivered material, to ensure all materials used on site are in line with the specification. To include adequate checks on subcontractor materials.
  • Carry out checks on the sub-contractor’s setting out.
  • Carry out checks for quality in accordance with the inspection and test plan throughout the contract and duly record.
  • Establish records; calibration documents and check registers for all instruments on site, including subcontractor’s instruments. Keep accurate records for excavations, reduce dig, concrete pours, reinforcement etc. and convey to commercial team.
  • Carry out surveys of completed works to record as-built conditions.
  • Assist in drafting method statements and inspection and test plans.
  • To comply with requirements outlined in the environmental management plan.
  • Coordination of the activities taking into account all the several constraint.
  • To fulfil Health & Safety responsibilities by adhering to the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and Management Plans.
  • To comply with all Company’s Policies and Procedures.
  • To undertake other such reasonable duties appropriate to the role.

The post holder must also comply with the requirements of the H&S Policy and co-operate with Align in its efforts to prevent accidents and ill health. In particular the post holder will:

  • read and comply with the location rules
  • behave in a responsible manner at all times
  • develop and demonstrate a personal concern for the health and safety of themselves and others
  • report all accidents, incidents and near misses to their line manager or health and safety manager as appropriate.
  • report damage to plant and equipment to their immediate supervisor
  • use only that plant and equipment for which they have received training and authorisation
  • use and look after the protective equipment provided and report to their supervisor when it becomes worn or defective
  • ensure that any personal injuries are recorded in the accident book
  • propose to their immediate supervisor ways of eliminating hazards and improving safety at their workplace
  • attend health surveillance when instructed
  • set a personal example of safe behaviour

Skills & Experience:

  • The post holder will be educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically an Engineering discipline. A lower educational level, typically HNC or HND may be acceptable where a very significant level of experience in a technical engineering role can be demonstrated.
  • CSCS Card holder
  • Preferably have membership of an appropriate Professional body, typically Institute of Civil Engineering or an international equivalent professional status.
  • Demonstrable previous relevant experience within construction engineering, including Earthworks, Ground stabilisation and deep drainage.
  • Experience of managing or assisting with the management of programmes of work, ensuring the project runs to schedule
  • Experience in managing or assisting with the management on site, monitoring, dealing with subcontractors and finding solutions to problems that may cause delays or extra costs.
  • Experience leading or assisting with the leadership of site teams and mentoring them to help built a solid project team.
  • Knowledge of the development and implementation of quality management. SMSTS or equivalent Accreditation.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Outlook and Word.
