Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Sub Agent (Structures) to join our HS2 delivery team in Aylesbury on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will support the Section Agent and Project Manager in the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of complex structures works on a major infrastructure project.

This role requires strong technical capability, leadership on site, and a proactive approach to health, safety, quality, and programme delivery in a highly regulated environment.


Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and delivery of structures works, including:
    • RC structures
    • Bridges
    • Culverts
    • Retaining walls
    • Associated temporary works
  • Ensure works are delivered in line with HS2 standards, contract requirements, programme, and budget.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of short‑term programmes and look‑ahead plans.

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety‑first culture in line with HS2 and company HSEQ requirements.
  • Ensure RAMS are prepared, reviewed, briefed, and adhered to.
  • Carry out site inspections, audits, and briefings (TBTs).
  • Actively manage environmental controls and sustainability requirements.

Technical & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure works comply with ITPs, drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Support inspections, hold points, and quality records.
  • Assist with the management of temporary works (liaison with TWC/TWS where applicable).
  • Identify and resolve technical issues in collaboration with engineering teams.

Site & Team Management

  • Coordinate site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure efficient sequencing of works.
  • Monitor productivity and performance on site.
  • Support and mentor Section Engineers and Site Engineers.
  • Maintain effective communication with the wider project team.

Commercial & Reporting Support

  • Assist with progress reporting, forecasts, and records for change control.
  • Support early identification of risks, opportunities, and delays.
  • Contribute to progress meetings and internal reporting.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a Sub Agent or Senior Section Engineer on structures‑led civil engineering projects
  • Strong background in reinforced concrete and structural works
  • Experience working on major infrastructure projects (HS2, rail, highways, or similar)
  • Solid understanding of:
    • RAMS
    • ITPs
    • Temporary works processes
    • CDM regulations
  • Ability to manage subcontractors and site teams effectively
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Full UK driving licence
