Senior Engineer / Sub Agent
Location: Oxfordshire area

We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer or Sub Agent to take ownership of a major programme of archaeological and enabling works

This is a key site leadership role, responsible for planning, coordination, and delivery, ensuring archaeological activities progress safely, efficiently, and in line with programme.

Key Responsibilities

• Planning & Programme Management

  • Develop and manage short-term lookahead programmes

  • Sequence archaeological works in line with the main project schedule

• Site Leadership & Coordination

  • Oversee site engineers and subcontractors

  • Act as the main interface between archaeologists, subcontractors, and project team

• Progress Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track productivity, progress, and outputs against programme

  • Produce clear daily/weekly reports and updates for senior management

• Meetings & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead coordination meetings and attend client / internal briefings

  • Communicate risks, constraints, and progress effectively

• Permits & Compliance

  • Oversee dig permits / permits to break ground

  • Ensure works are carried out in line with health, safety, and environmental requirements

• Problem Solving

  • Proactively identify and unlock blockers to maintain progress on site

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Senior Engineer or Sub Agent on civil engineering or infrastructure projects

• Strong background in planning, coordination, and site delivery

• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders in a complex, fast-moving environment

• Experience producing programmes, reports, and progress tracking

• Excellent communication and leadership skills

Desirable

• Experience working on archaeological, environmental, or enabling works

• Background in earthworks or large-scale infrastructure projects
