CarmichaelUK is working with a major civil engineering contractor delivering large‑scale earthworks and enabling works on a high‑profile infrastructure programme. We are seeking an experienced Earthworks Sub Agent with a strong technical background in bulk earthworks, drainage, QA/ITPs and subcontractor coordination.This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of detailed planning, identifying workable solutions, and driving safe, efficient delivery on site.
As Earthworks Sub Agent, you will be responsible for the successful technical and operational delivery of earthworks packages, including:

Planning, sequencing and coordinating daily earthworks activities.

Reviewing design information and producing detailed method statements, work packages and risk assessments.

Monitoring cut‑and‑fill operations, embankments, excavations, stabilisation, platforms and drainage works.

Providing clear direction to Site Engineers, Foremen and subcontractors.

Leading quality assurance processes — managing ITPs, sign‑offs, inspections and as‑built records.

Supporting temporary works processes and ensuring compliance with design briefs.

Driving H&S standards through daily briefings, inspections and proactive leadership.

Ensuring plant, labour and materials requirements are identified and requisitioned in time.

Solving engineering challenges on the ground and producing workable, practical solutions.
We are looking for someone who has:

Proven experience as a Sub Agent, Senior Engineer, or experienced Section Engineer specialising in large earthworks packages.

Strong knowledge of bulk earthworks, drainage, ground improvement, formation, stabilisation, haul roads and platforms.

Excellent attention to detail with a structured, organised approach to planning and documentation.

Confident in managing and briefing subcontractors, quality teams and engineering staff.

Comfortable producing and reviewing technical documentation: RAMS, ITPs, TW briefs, method statements, permits, etc.

Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across delivery teams.

Qualifications: CSCS, SMSTS; TWC/TWS experience desirable.
