Purpose

The purpose of the Transport Rebuild East Coast Alliance (TREC) is to restore the state highway and railway networks in the Hawkes Bay and Gisborne Regions impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle. Furthermore, the alliance exists to build resilience into the network to minimise the impacts of future events. The alliance’s purpose is to ensure a regional centric approach that respects and engages with iwi, council, regional suppliers to support a local recovery.

The purpose for this position is to:

  • To manage and supervise of the crew(s) carrying out Civil Construction works. The Supervisor will be expected to be involved in planning, organising, directing, and controlling activities and operations of crews to ensure that work is completed safely and to the satisfaction of customers and all other targets are met
  • Work `hands on` at times to provide training and development for any new staff

 

Responsibilities

  • Organise, direct, and monitor project operations, identifying tasks and priorities, planning work and assigning resources accordingly
  • Arrange, direct, and monitor activities of subcontractors to ensure their work meets project objectives and requirements
  • Ensure crews are deployed efficiently as well as efficient use of materials, supplies and equipment
  • Ensure individuals are clear on targets for their area of responsibility and provide support and coaching to achieve
  • Collate and forward to the Project Manager all daily records and other required reports and documentation, ensuring these provide a complete and accurate record of all activities undertaken
  • Mark out the extent of work and record the work items with reference to the Contract schedule of rates
  • Identify record and claim variations to activities or quantities allowable by the Contract documents
  • Assist the Project Engineer and team with valuing variations and claims for completed work
  • Monitor operations under your control to ensure compliance with local By-Laws, Government Statutes and Regulations, and with Works’ policy in relation to H & S, the environment and quality assurance
  • Discuss and agree productivity, quality and safety targets with Project Manager and implement controls to ensure targets are met, reporting regularly to the Project Manager
  • Ensure all plant under your control is presented, maintained, and operated in a professional, safe and efficient manner
  • Manage site(s) and activities to achieve a superior level of safety performance
  • Promote and maintain a safety and quality focus amongst staff. Discuss any significant issues as they arise before work is undertaken
  • Champion safety leadership and support the implementation of EHS procedures in division and the wider business and participate in site quality requirements to achieve project quality goals and implementation of Quality Plan

 

Experience

  • Proven track record of supervising teams preferably in a range of roading maintenance activities
  • Able to deal with uncertainty, unexpected effects and be able to confidently make decisions and provide direction to work teams
  • Ability and willingness to provide solutions for a continual improvement philosophy
  • Organised and systematic approach to working environment
  • Strong planning skills
  • Ability to understand drawings and construction details and impart those to others
  • Highly organised with an innate ability to problem solve and influence others
  • Ability to influence and facilitate difficult discussions, handle conflict and work under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that enable the building of effective relationships with key personnel, including support teams
  • Ability to champion and promote Alliance principles and influence others
