Technical Lead – Building Regulations (Cladding & Building Safety)

Reporting To: Head of Building Regulations Compliance
Project: Major Carbon Capture Infrastructure Project

 

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead – Building Regulations to provide technical leadership and regulatory oversight for building works including cladding and external envelope works on a nationally significant carbon capture project.

This role will be responsible for ensuring that all building works, including envelope and cladding packages are designed, reviewed and delivered in full compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, Building Regulations, Approved Documents and associated guidance. The successful candidate will act as the technical authority for building regulations compliance and support project teams through design development, gateway processes, construction and handover.

Reporting directly to the Head of Building Regulations Compliance, you will play a critical role in ensuring the project meets the highest standards of safety, compliance and technical excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all Building Regulations compliance activities relating to al building workis including cladding, façades and external envelope systems.
  • Provide expert interpretation and application of the Building Safety Act 2022, including the requirements associated with higher-risk buildings and regulatory compliance.
  • Support compliance with Part 2A requirements, ensuring robust management of building safety obligations through design and delivery phases.
  • Review and approve technical submissions, specifications, material selections and design changes.
  • Work closely with designers, contractors, specialist façade consultants and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Provide technical assurance throughout Gateway and approval processes where applicable.
  • Ensure the Golden Thread of information is maintained and accurately documented.
  • Identify and mitigate design, fire safety and regulatory risks associated with cladding systems.
  • Lead technical reviews, audits and compliance assessments.
  • Advise senior project leadership on emerging regulatory changes and industry best practice.
  • Support contractor management and technical governance across multiple work packages.
  • Produce reports and compliance updates for executive and project stakeholders.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Building Surveying, Building Control, Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience leading Building Regulations compliance within complex construction, infrastructure or industrial projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of cladding, façade systems, external envelope design and building safety requirements.
  • Detailed understanding of the Building Safety Act 2022 and associated Building Regulations framework.
  • Experience working with duty-holder responsibilities, compliance management systems and regulatory approvals.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary technical teams and manage stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.

 

Desirable Requirements

  • Membership of a recognised professional body (RICS, CABE, CIOB, IFE, ICE or equivalent).
  • Experience on major industrial, energy, carbon capture, nuclear, petrochemical or process-sector projects.
  • Knowledge of fire engineering, façade engineering or building control processes.
  • Experience working within a Principal Designer, Principal Contractor or Building Control environment.
