Reporting to the Survey & Utilities Manager, imbedded within the Cross‐Programme Delivery team, you will work closely with the SPA Survey Coordinator during the preliminary investigation phase to deliver topographic, hydrographic and utility trial hole surveys across the 400km pipeline route.
You must be willing and able to work remotely and autonomously, deploying in small teams to obtain accurate topographical data. Although a large percentage of time will be spent in the field, you will be expected to carry out data post processing and reporting in parallel to field operations, to ensure site survey information is quality checked and transmitted to SPA Design Teams in accordance with the agreed pre‐delivery programme.
Accountabilities:
· Report to the SPA Survey Coordinator all deploying in accordance agreed survey programme.
· Undertake topographic, hydrographic and utility surveys to inform permanent and temporary works designs.
· Pre‐Condition Photographic Surveys.
· Produce Quality Assurance records.
· Instrument calibration checks.
· Maintain daily site diaries.
· Process GNSS/GPS survey information
· Produce Digital Terrain Models.
· Process and present surveys in ESRI GIS environment (preferable).
· Interrogate and check permanent and temporary works information.
· Access and Update Survey Request Schedule.
· Report progress of topographical surveys and utility mapping.
· Produce data schedules, drawings, and diagrams for designers, to ensure interfaces with roads, rail and rivers are managed and developed in accordance with the relevant authority Standards and Safe Systems of Work (SSoW).
 
Education, Skills & Competencies:
· Degree qualification is preferable, however demonstrable experience will be considered.
· The role will require knowledge and experience in establishing primary site survey control networks, including deploying GNSS GPS RTK base stations to improve the accuracy of surveys & site setting out in general.
· Experience working in a Microsoft 365 environment will be beneficial, specifically collaborating via SharePoint and other 365 applications to coordinate team activities and deliverables.
· Familiarity working in a project specific Geographic Information System (GIS) will be beneficial, as SPA uses GIS as a common data environment to communicate the developing design and site investigation proposals and findings.
· The ideal candidate will be familiar with the organisational structure and managerial procedures of complex infrastructure projects.
· You must hold a valid gold (Supervisors) CSCS Card, have completed SSSTS, although SMSTS is favourable.
· Good communicator, confident to engage with delivery and design team representatives, plus 3 rd party stakeholders e.g. landowners.
· Physically fit and healthy, able to cover at least 5km of terrain every day, whist carrying personal administration and survey equipment.
· Skilled in general land surveying practices and techniques, including all aspects of field work and information processing.
· Familiar with electronic surveying and setting out equipment, particularly Trimble R8 (and more recent) GNSS GPS RTK systems.
· Experienced survey data processing software user. Familiarity with Trimble Business Centre and Autodesk Civil3D advantageous.
· Work with the Survey Coordinator to produce Safe Systems of Work for numerous individual project surveying deployments.
· Understanding of Street Works and Traffic Management requirements
· Strong technical understanding of surveying equipment operation, maintenance, and calibration.
· Short‐term: SPA COVID policy compliant working. Provisionally based from home, deploying daily to various project locations within Anglian Region (Lincolnshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk & Essex).
· Long‐Term: Based in the main design & delivery hub in Peterborough (at least 3 days per week) however flexibility required to work remotely with minimal supervision.
