Carmichael UK are seeking a tunnelling section engineer to assist the Tunnel Shift Managers in the SCL/TBM/Secondary lining construction at Hinkley Point C. 

This role is working out of Avonmouth on 8 hours shift rotations on days/backs/nights. This role is on a contracting basis, for 6 months with the potential to be longer term. 

 

About the Role:

  • Demonstrate and lead the shift in commitment to safe working
  • Manage the programme on a weekly basis
  • Ensure that materials plant and equipment are orders in and managed
  • Planning and programming of the works
  • To be fully familiar with spray concrete lining / TBM works /Secondary Lining sufficient to undertake the role of Section Engineer
  • Weekly working rota of 8-hour shift pattern Monday – Sunday, Days, Backs and Nights
  • Supervision of tunnel shift engineer
  • Alignment control on tunnel drive
  • Preparation / review of Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Maintain good working relations with client / designer, together with our supply chain.
  • Attend the RESS Meetings daily to discuss SCL /TBM/Secondary Lining activity / actions with the designer, client, geotechnical engineers, surveyors.
  • Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
  • Communicate with Pit Boss and Lead Miners to ensure full understanding of information provided such as RESS and Shift Briefing, POWRA.
  • Arrange formal checking of setting out and ensure check request form is completed.
  • Ensure Shift Engineer completes inspection and test plans as required by the Project Management Plan/Specification, including checks of dimension accuracy and quality.
  • Provide accurate measurements for materials required for site. Maintain material reconciliation figures for reporting in the weekly site review meeting.
  • Liaise with Pit Boss and temporary works designers to determine optimum temporary works solutions
  • Input tunnelling construction data into the Tunnel Information Management / VMT system and liaise with the client representatives to ensure hold points are ‘signed-off’ according

 

About You: 

Civil Engineering or Mining qualification to HNC / Degree level and have relevant professional tunnelling experience.  Must hold a valid suitable grade of CSCS card after completing the Managers and Professionals HS&E Test and hold certificates/training below:

  • TSTS (if not held, to be completed before working in Tunnelling Environment)
  • C&G Tunnel Entry & Emergency Procedures (if not held, to be completed before working in Tunnelling Environment)
  • SMSTS / IOSH
  • Full experience of SCL/TBM/Secondary Lining works
  • Experience of face logging to BS 5930
  • Experience of shift work
  • Ability to manage shift engineers and operatives
