Our client is looking to recruit a Utilities Engineer for its £965m High Speed 2 project. The role will be initially based in Euston and then will move to site within 6 months. The site is around the Uxbridge area.

The JV will be responsible for the design and build of the main civil works of the 22km section of the high-speed rail line, running between the Colne Valley and the Chilterns. The C1 lot includes the route’s 3.4km- long Colne Valley Viaduct, as well as the 15.8km-long Chiltern twin-tunnels.

The Utilities Engineer and Permits is responsible for monitoring the successful delivery of all Stats diversions and new installations. They will also manage trial holes, permit- to-digs and service records for the project.

The Utilities Engineer will be responsible for:

Ensuring the successful delivery of all Stats diversions and New Installations:

  • Ensure all Stat Diversions and New Stats Infrastructure has accurate as built drawings which are communicated to the designers and updated on the main construction drawings
  • Attend and record minutes of Weekly Meetings with Utility Companies
  • Ensure utilities contractors are attending site and completing works in line with the main contract programme.
  • Ensure Traffic Management requirements for Utility Supplier is either accounted for in the Traffic Management Plan or provided for by Utility Supplier Contractor
  • Update site team during regular site meetings of progress with Utility Suppliers
  • Produce allocation sheets and diary information of Utility Contractors attendance/progress
  • Be the point of contact on site in charge Utility Contractors- (ie Safe Systems of Work)
  • Ensure all self-delivered utilities works have approved RAMS and ITP’s in place prior to works commencing.
  • Ensure all works are installed in accordance with the relevant ITP

Managing trial holes, permit-to-digs and service records:

  • Advise site team of standoff distances and proximity to Stats
  • Ensure As built Drawings for all services are completed and included within the Health & Safety File
  • Competent at Genny & CAT scanning to support engineers with service detection. Including mentoring to improve scanning techniques on site.
  • Signoff Permits-to-dig, Permits to work near overhead utilities
  • Manage and update composite service drawings
  • Manage and update trial hole records
  • Complying with all Company’s Policies and Procedures
  • Undertaking other such reasonable duties appropriate to the role

Skills & Experience:

Mandatory:

  • Experience working on site with teams using “safe digging practices”
  • Basic knowledge of all utilities (Gas, Water, Electricity, Communication cables, Drainage)
  • SMSTS and Must be independent of construction team, plus:
  • IOSH Avoiding Danger from Underground Services, or,
  • EUSR Service Avoidance, or,
  • NVQ Level 2 in Utility Avoidance & Buried Services

Desirable

  • Good spatial understanding
  • Basic Auto CAD capabilities
