Carmichael UK are seeking a water treatment engineering manager to join a tier 1 contractor on HS2 in Hertfordshire. 

Responsibilities
The Water Treatment Engineering Manager will be responsible for:  

  • Being the 1st point of contact to making sure all plant, machinery and equipment associated with the WTP is maintained in an orderly manner to reduce the risk of unnecessary downtime
  • Leading a site-based team of site engineers, operators and production workers, as well as coordinating any other on-site teams.
  • Ensuring the Tunnel and Surface Team Managers are updated on all issues as soon as possible, to mitigate the risk of production downtime.
  • Responsible for day to day operation of a Ultrafiltration- Reverse Osmosis plant. This includes:
    • Process chemistry and tracking process efficiency
    • Ensuring product meets specified standards in terms of water quality and volume
    • Balancing production of treated water with changing incoming feed water quality
    • Planning maintenance schedules, including maintenance of process equipment, pumps, instrumentation etc
    • Ensuring the quality of the water treated at the WTP is within the requirement of the discharge permit.
    • Undertaking chemical cleans of plants (CIPs)
    • Process optimisation and plant improvements
    • Reporting of operation parameters for regulatory compliance purposes
  • Coordinating extensively with the maintenance teams to make sure all daily, weekly and monthly checks are carried out adequately, to ensure the smooth operation of all plant equipment.
  • Coordinating all planned preventative maintenance tasks with the maintenance teams to avoid any unnecessary downtime to the production.
  • Reviewing interfaces with adjacent activities and ensuring that they are properly coordinated and communicated.
  • Attending regular site progress meetings with all involved parties to monitor progress, efficiency, quality and safety.
  • Leading the daily activity briefing to ensure that all team member understand the planned activities, and are aware of any changing risks associated with the planned works.
  • Working with the procurement team to ensure the adequate supply of the required production fittings and materials in line with the production programme.
  • Coordinating and assisting the quality teams to ensure that all the required tests are carried out by the internal laboratory as per the ITP’s.
  • Ensuring that the suppliers and teams maintain the on-going compliance of all products and related approvals.
  • Ensuring that all sub-contractors are working to the latest design information and providing technical advice and support where required.
  • Review the reporting of the site engineers
    • Monitoring progress against the weekly programmes on a weekly basis.
    • Recording any events which affect the day’s activities in a comprehensive site diary (e.g. weather, resource availability, instructions received, interfaces with other tasks etc.…) and providing the adequate feedback to enable the updating of progress reports, daily diaries changes and issues for areas of responsibility.
    • Performance of the filter press and review of their parameters.
    • Water management, i.e. consumptions, recycling, optimization of the process.
  • Ensuring that the teams and sub-contractors meet their requirements with respect to programme, quality, safety, and sustainability issues
  • Producing, reviewing and approving (as and when authorised) risk assessments, method statements.
  • Monitoring the implementation of the method statements.
  • Ensuring the safe execution of the works at all times.
  • Fulfilling Health & Safety responsibilities by adhering to the Health & Safety Policy and Management Plans.
  • Complying with all Company’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Undertaking other such reasonable duties appropriate to the role.

 
Skills & Experience

  • Experience of process engineering, ideally of reverse osmosis and ultra filtration in water treatment
  • Proven effective collaborative leadership.
  • The ideal candidate would have a good understanding of the chemistry of water treatment
  • They should be organised and self-motivated and be willing to be out on site and develop relationships with site teams and contractors.
  • Good communication skills, report writing skills and computer literacy (especially MS Excel)

 
Qualifications

  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
  • CSCS Card holder or happy to obtain prior to joining the business.
  • Full UK driving Licence
